Dorado on the Fly

Within a half dozen casts, one took a liking to my fly and we were on! The rest of the day was a Dorado day, and a good one. We didn't mind having lost the time hunting for roosters as the fish watching was worth it. By now we had completely lost count of fish. Once you reach a certain point, numbers are not the measure, but quality. And when every fish is quality, where do you go from there?

Love Lost On the Side of the Road

As I sawed through the second wing at the joint with my knife, I felt a presence. Instinctively, I looked around and nearly jumped up out of my skin!!!! I screamed aloud and incoherently. My body sprang from the coiled crouch I was in, with the four inch hooked blade in my right hand, flailing around wildly for balance, my left hand firmly locked onto the leg of the road kill turkey, now also flailing about with innards spewing out grotesquely in all directions. My legs sought purchase beneath me....

Tying Awesome Hair

One day while waiting for Mr. Marlin to appear, I grabbed a live sardine out of the bait well at the back of the boat and held it in the sunlight next to an Awesome Hair sardine of about the same size. The opalescent colors of the real fish were almost perfectly mimicked by the opalescent colors of the fly next to it. I showed the boat captain and he was equally awed at the similarity. He was even more impressed at how readily the fish hit the Awesome Hair flies.
