CDC & Turkey Caddis
Tied by Byard Miller
  • Hook: 12-22 Light Wire Dry
  • Thread: Brown
  • Body: CDC Feather (various colors)
  • Hackle: Grizzly and Ginger
  • Wing: Mottled Turkey Wing
  • Tail: None
  • Tying Instructions
Tie in the tip of a CDC feather at the bend of the hook. Using hackle pliers, wind the feather towards the eye, brushing the fibers backwards after each wrap. This should result in a body that appears dubbed at the back, but looks leggy towards the front. Tie off the CDC when it has covered about 2/3 of the shank. Lay on a piece of mottled turkey wing (best if the feather has been treated with a matte spray or head cement to keep the fibers together) so that it extends slightly past the bend in the hook. After tying off prepare one each of grizzly and ginger hackle. Tie on and wrap one at a time towards the eye. Tie each feather off and whip finish. Your done...go fishin'!! Hope you all have as much success with this pattern as I have had...enjoy...byard
    Fishing Tips
This is a variation of my most productive trout patterns. The addition of CDC has definitely improved the success ratio of this fly. It makes a great searching pattern for those times when there is no visible hatch. Don't forget to give it an occasional twitch as that can result in a few extra splashy takers! To give credit, where credit is due...I'd like to thank Hans Weilenmann for his method of applying CDC to a caddis fly.
