Dave's Invicta
Tied by Dave Dow
  • Hackle: Brown
  • Ribbing: Gold mylar tinsel #18
  • Tail: Golden pheasant crest
  • Hook: Mustad 9671 #12
  • Wing: Pheasant tail
  • Thread: Yellow 6/0
  • Body: Yellow hare's ear & Antron
  • Tying Instructions
The original pattern calls for yellow seal, but I don't have any and can't see the difference. It also calls for a Blue Jay throat but I can't afford the fine for a couple dozen flies

It ties fairly straight forward. Run the thread to the hook bend and tie in the Golden Pheasant crest. Tie in the brown hackle by the tip. Tie in the mylar tinsel. Dub in the dubbing. Run the thread towards the eye leaving enough room to tie in the wing. Run the dubbing to where the thread is. Wrap the tinsel forward and tie it off. Wrap the hackle forward and tie off. Stroke the fibers backward so that they lay back at about a 45 degree angle. Then grab a bunch of Pheasant tail fibers and tie them in at the head about as long as the tail. Whip that puppy and see if it'll hunt!!
