Kings River Caddis
Tied by Charlie Garwood
  • Thread: Brown 8/0
  • Collar: Brown microbarb
  • Wing: Mottled Turkey (use paired feathers)
  • Body: Tan dubbing
  • Hook: TMC531, size 14 (Any fine wire dry fly hook is ok, size 10 to 16)
  • Tying Instructions
I have never tied (or fished) this pattern before. I used the "fifties experience" to teach myself how to manage a feather wing dry fly pattern. I searched the pattern books and found this one. It's simple and easy to tie. A light coating of adhesive on the back of the feather definitely helps to hold it together (prevent separation).

My gift to the swap group is a hexagonal shaped container for your "pocket flies". I am an engineer for a fiber glass manufacturer in Linwood/Lexington, North Carolina. A tremendous amount of water is necessary in the manufacture of fiber glass. Spraying is generally the desired method of application. Consequently, we purchase (and replace) a tremendous number of spray nozzles. These nozzles come packaged in small plastic containers. Usually, the packaging is trashed. When possible, I salvage these vials and use them to store some flies, carry special patterns in my pant's pocket (they are waterproof too) and protect my flies during swaps and/or special mailings.
