Thread: Black 6/0
Head: Black Glass Bead (size 10/0)
Hackle: Black, long
Abdomen: Brown rabbit dubbing
Thorax: Green floss
Hook: Mustad 9672 (or equivalent) streamer hook #12

| Tying Instructions |
1. Crimp the barb on the hook, slide on a bead all the way to the eye.
2. Tie in the hackle, butt toward the hook bend, immediately behind the
bead. Wind one turn of hackle and tie off, trim. Now trim off the hackle
fibers so they're short and stiff. Length should be about 2 bead widths.
3. Tie in the green floss immediately behind the hackle. Wind back and
forth over a space about one eye-width long to build up the thickness to
just slightly smaller than the bead. Tie off at the bend side of this
built-up floss, trim the floss end.
4. Wind the thread to the bend.
5. Wind on some lead or other weight onto the hook shank. I used a 1/4 by
3/4 inch piece of dental x-ray lead provided by Doc Shaffer.
6. Wind the thread back over the lead a couple times to hold it in place.
I add a couple extra turns of thread on the hook shank right at each end of
the lead to keep it from sliding.
7. Beginning at the hook bend, dub the thread with the brown rabbit
dubbing, using both guard hairs and underfur, just as it comes from the
hide. Dub up to green floss, and whipfinish between the dubbing and the
floss.
8. Brush the dubbed abdomen with a piece of hook velcro, your SO's
toothbrush, or whatever, to pull out some of the guard hairs and make the
abdomen very shaggy.
| For my "extra something",
I've included some coasters from Washington's first Brewpub - if you're
ever down this way, they have good food and great beers - they're located
one block North of the Metro Center metro stop, on the corner of 11th and H
st., NW. |
