Tied by Justin Moeykens
  • Hook: Dry fly #14-20
  • Hackle: Grizzly
  • Body: Stripped peacock
  • Tying Instructions
Tie in your thread and wrap it back to just over the point of the hook barb. Then tie in a stripped peacock quill (I strip the quil by laying it flat on a surface and rubbing it with an eraser from a pencil). Wrap your tying thread to the wing position and carefully wrap on the peacock quill and tie it off. If you have problems with brittle quills breaking, it sometimes helps to soak the quills first in water. Another trick to help make them more durable is to apply head cement or nail polish after winding on the hook shank. After your quill is on to your liking attach a grizzly hackle and wrap as you would a standard dry fly. Whip finish and your done.

I started fishing this fly this fall when the hatches were mostly midges and sparse. A friend gave me the pattern, so I don't know its name. It is deadly, dead drifted, and on the swing, retrieved wet, using a slow finger roll.

Now go catch a good one...Justin 'SquareTail' Moeykens
