Orange Palmer
Tied by Charlie Garwood
  • Hackle: Brown and grizzly palmered
  • Tail: Golden pheasant tippet or light deer hair
  • Thread: Orange or brown 6/0 or 8/0
  • Body: Pale orange dubbing
  • Hook: Tiemco #531, size 12-18 or equivalent
  • Tying Instructions
This pattern is similar to a traditional Southern Applachian fly called the "yellow palmer". It imitates the large, pale orange caddis that emerge in fall and golden brown mayflies as well. It's simple to tie, a good floater, and a favorite in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. It should work well throughout autumn.
