| Tying Instructions |
Tie in the thread and work back to middle of hook. Tie in chenille and work to bend and back to the middle. Tie in the wire and work to bend and then the thread in about the middle of the hook. Wrap the chenille forward to just past the midpoint of the hook shaft and tie off and clip. Then tie in a piece of craft foam cut to about 1/3 inch wide. Then rib the wire around the foam and chenille by counter wrapping the wire. Cut the wire and then tie in the swiss straw as an under wing. Then tie in coastal deer hair on top of hook so the tips extend just past the bend of the hook. If you want, you could also tie in some krystal flash under the deer hair for a flashier look. Then take som moose mane, stack the hairs, and tie in with the tips facing forward. Wrap the hair forward to just behind the eye of the hook and then 3 really tight wraps to cause the hair to flare. Then move the thread back to the mid point of the hook. Form the bullet head by pulling the moose hair backwards and then wrap losely around it 3-4 times. Tie in the double strand of rubberlegs on each side with 4-5 wraps. Then tie a few whip finishes around this point and a dob of head cement. You are done.
Variations on this fly could include tying it in golden stone colors, all brown, and in different sizes. The chenille will soak water so the fly will plop. The foam and deer hair will float the fly, but in or below the surface film. The rubber legs give action and the fly will solicit some "slap strikes" to say the least. |
