| Tying Instructions |
| Slide bead on hook, place hook in vise. Make 10 to 20 wraps with the lead wire behind the bead, depending on the size of the hook and the amount of weight you want on the fly. Tie in a bunch of Zonker fur for the tail then tie in the hackle, the Pearl yarn and the Orange yarn. Wrap the Orange yarn forward, basically you just want to cover the hook shank and lead wraps, to just behind the bead, wrap down and trim, wrap the pearl yarn forward, making sure each wrap is in front of the other, to just behind the bead, wrap down and trim. Wrap hackle forward to just behind the bead, trim excess. Build a narrow thread collar behind the bead, then whip finish. Take eyes, place one on each side of the bead. Mix small batch of 5-minute epoxy, cover bead and eyes, and thread collar. Rotate till dry, the head should be bullet shaped.
If you are tying a large WRD (4 to 6 inches) use white marabou for the tail. |
| Fishing Tips |
| This fly was shown to me by Tony Spezio. It was originally tied for trout on the White River in Arkansas. To be honest I've yet to catch a trout on it here in the East. Smallmouth, Largemouth and Sunfish have jumped all over it, Snapper blues like it also. Basically, I fish it like a streamer. Cast it out and strip it back. Faster retrieves seem to gather the most strikes from the bass and snapper blues. Sunfish like a slower retrieve. I'll also fish it dead drifted once in a while and have had bass pick it up. |
