| Tying Instructions |
This is a variation of a pattern I found in a magazine (FlyFishAmerica?) last year. All I could remember of it was the foam circle, so I had to recreate the rest.
The process I followed:
- Cut circle from orange foam w/ sharpened .22 shell casing. (Thanks Jerry!)
- Tie in thread near head and wrap back to end of shank.
- Bend peacock herl around the thread at midpoint of the good material.
- Wrap peacock herl forward to near eye, clip hackle pliers and let hang, wrap thread forward as a rib and tie off at 3/32" from eye.
- Apply dot of superglue on top of tie off point and place foam circle on top with front edge at the tail-edge of the eye.
- Grip circle with thumb and forefinger of (left) hand and bend foam down on both sides (not too far), canted slightly toward you (anti-wrap direction), wrap three wraps, and let bobbin hang while the superglue dries.
- Place three guard hairs at seam, canted slightly toward you, and x-wrap about three or four times and half-hitch.
- Whip finish w/ three or four wraps.
- Cut slit lengthwise in top of foam for wing split. (cosmetic only)
- Apply drop of head cement. (The more of these I tied, the less thread wraps I used and depended more on the glue to hold the joint - to keep the width of the thread at the head/body joint as small as possible.)

| In orange, this works pretty well as a strike indicator with teeth. In this size, it won't stay afloat in rough/fast water or when there's drag on the line, although they're still fairly easy to follow even under water. |
