Callibaetis Spinner
Tied by Bob Stark
  • Thread: 8/0 White, 14/0 would be better
  • Tail: Bett's MicroFibbetts white
  • Hook: Mustad 94845 #18
  • Abdomen: White Antron dubbing
  • Wing: White Antron yarn
  • Tying Instructions
After forming thread base, dub a small ball at the bend of the hook, this is to V the tail fibers. Tie in tail fibers in the middle of the hook, this allows room to manipulate the fibers so that they are along each side of the hook, I try to make the tail one to 1 to 1 1/2 times the length of the hook. Wrap the thread to the ball. Then dub in the body to just short of where the wings will be tied in. About the 75% point. Tie in the wings, don't worry about having the wings the exact size, they can be trimmed to shape later. Use figure 8 wraps on the wings, ending with the thread behind the wings. Dub on more Antron. dub to the wings, then figure 8 thru the wings a couple of times to build up the body, then a couple of wraps in front of the wings. Whip finish. Cement the head and clip the wings to desired size.
P.S. I left the wings on the flies that I tied for the swap slightly large.
