| Tying Instructions |
- Kaufman in his book likes to rip maribou for this fly. He prefers the really webby stuff at the base, not the thinner more fragile tips at the end. He grabs a decent amount, ties in the portion, secures with the right hand and rips of the excess with the left hand (Assuming you're a righty).
- First chunk of maribou to tie in is the tail, bushy is alright because maribou when wet really condenses.
- Tie in the gold wire for ribbing, set aside.
- Bring thread to front, tie in second chunk of maribou, tips to the front, use thread to wrap back to the tail. Wind thread back to front. Wrap maribou around the shank, just before the eye, tie off, snip the excess.
- Wrap rib to the front, tie off, trim excess.
- Third chunk of maribou is tied in to imitate the wing case and gills. After tying in and ripping, this chunk should extend back one third of the length of the body.
- Tie off the head in your usual manner.
Options:
- Lead wrap for a quicker sinking fly. An all maribou fly will sink well as soon as it's wet, but lead will obviously get down much quicker.
- Eyes - you could use plastic, gold bead chain or the ultralite lead dumbell eyes.

| Nothing to report with this fly, but I will testify that I was the witness on Moose Pond in Pittsburg, NH when Matt caught the behemoth Brookie on a different damsel imitation. What a monster! Matt fought him gallantly from his float tube. I imagine he (Matt) was pretty dizzy - that brookie was pulling him around in circles! Meanwhile me and stepson Mike were skunked except for a couple of shiners. |
