| Fishing Tips |
| The Doodle Bug has a long history and is still very popular in the Rangely, Maine area. It has been an outstanding producer for as long as I can remember. It was the only fly my grandfather used for years and is the one of the handful that my Dad uses today. The most common version is red chenille and white deer hair but many other color combinations exist. The Doodle Bug seems to be a good beetle imitation but the fly produces just about year round. The peacock and natural color works well during caddis hatches. Don't worry when the fly starts to fray from catching fish (and it will!!!), it seems to work even better. The most popular method is to fish it in the surface film but adding floatant and fishing it like a nymph also works. I hope you enjoy this simple but extremely effective fly. |
