Olive Mohair Leech
Tied by Mike Kruse
  • Weight: .035" diameter lead wire, 12 turns
  • Tail: Medium olive marabou, shank length, tied thick
  • Hook: Mustad 9672 or equivalent, size 8
  • Thread: Olive
  • Body: Olive mohair yarn (NOT "leech" yarn with a white core)
  • Fishing Tips
Tie this fly very fuzzy, with the long strands of mohair trailing back and merging with the marabou tail. Fish it mostly as a nymph, dead drift, upstream. I usually use an indicator. Fish will sometimes hit the fly as it begins to drag at the end of the drift. I use it mostly as a heavy 'nymph' that sinks quickly into short, deep holes in small streams, but the fly has proven its versatility in a wide variety of situations, including ponds and lakes in the western US and New Zealand.
