| Tying Instructions |
I tied this as an 'X-periment' using a common and single material
- Tie on thread and wrap from eye to bend
- Tie in two peacock herl tips at the bend (since this was only an experiement, I cheated on some of these ties by trimming herl pieces rather than using the tips only--you'll notice this on these examples)
- Strip about 3/4 inch of peacock herl, tie in and wrap thread forward to the eye, then back again about 1/8 inch (I go all the way to the eye to minimize any possible rough edge and to close the eye if it might be spread a bit)
- Wrap stripped herl forward, overlapping edges of the quill slightly to form a biot-like body. Stop at the end of the tripped portion of the quill. This should be about where the thread bobbin ins hanging.
- Wrap thread forward over the herl once or twice to fasten down the quill
- Hackle forward, two or three wraps of the unstripped peacock
- Tie off and whip finish
