Tied by Kathy Kinyon
  • Head: Black Uni-Thread
  • Wing: Coastal deer hair
  • Hackle: Medium brown hackle
  • Tail: Medium coastal deer hair
  • Hook: Mustad 9672 size 12
  • Abdomen: Orange sparkle yarn
  • Rib: Peacock herl
  • Thread: Uni-Thread
  • Tying Instructions
Start behind the eye of the hook and wrap thread to the butt end of the hook.Tie in a small bunch of deer hair making a small tail. Then tie in one peacock herl and then go to the front of the hook allowing space for a hackle and the deer hair wing. Tie in one stand of orange sparkle yarn. Wrap the yarn to the tail and then back up to the beginning of where you tied in the yarn. Secure the yarn, then wrap the peacock herl rib to the front of the fly. Attach the brown hackle and put two or three wraps on the hook. Tie the hackle off and then put on enough to make a nice wing appearance and finish off the head.
    Fishing Tips
This is a fly pattern we use as a searching pattern when the fish are not rising and definitely when fish are rising. We found the fly to work well when the caddis hatches occured. This pattern was good also in kelly green, gold, and black.
