Thread: Black
Abdomen: Black hares ear,or sub
Thorax: Fluor green ostrich herl
Hook: Kamasan B175
Head: Optional bead
Legs: Optional rubber legs

Tail: Pinch of black marabou

| Tying Instructions |
- Whip on,and take thread to point just above Barb.
- Tie in a pinch of Black Marabou,proportional to the size of hook.
- Make sure this is tied down neatly,and add in the wire of your choice.Fine wire is best,and copper or silver the usual colours.
- Once again make sure everything is neat,and tie in the pearl casing.Your thread should now be relaxed at the barb,ready for dubbing.
- Take your choice of Black Fur and dub on.Once again ensure the body is proportional,winding on to a point 2/3rds up the shank.
- Rid yourself of any excess dubbing,and stretch your casing over to the finish point of the dubbing and tie down.
- Rib with the wire to the same point,in neat open turns.
- At this point you may wish to tie in rubber legs,to pop out from the thorax.This is optional.
- Tie in the Ostrich Herl,at the finish point of the case and dubbing.Wind on to create a fluffy thorax.
- Finish the fly as normal,and cement the head.With a dubbing needle pick out the fur to breath life into the pattern,being careful not tot dislodge the ribbing.

| This pattern was created because I could never get the original Montana to work. (I expect I am the only angler on the planet not able to!) My version is best on sinking lines,targetted at Bows. Intermediates seem to produce best with this pattern, fished on the point of a flurocarbon leader. Fig 8 retrieve is best. A variety of sizes can be tied, and no doubt it would also work well as a stonefly imitator on rivers. Lead could be used for extra weight, and bead heads look good. Basically its a hashed up lure, nymphy, bug type thing and it works! I hope it does for you. |
