Bead Chain Nymph
Tied by Gary Smith
  • Tail: Brown hackle fibers
  • Thorax: Coarse dark brown dubbing
  • Note: Designed to have hook-point up when fished
  • Rib: Fine oval gold tinsel
  • Abdomen: Fine textured brown dubbing
  • Thread: Lt. Brown 6/0 or 8/0
  • Wingcase: Narrow pearlescent Mylar tubing
  • Eyes: Standard brass bead chain
  • Hook: Standard Nymph Sizes 8-12
  • Tying Instructions
    1. Start thread on hook, tie in a pair of bead chain eyes. (leaving space for a head.) Then wind back to hook bend.
    2. Tie in a dozen brown hackle fibers. Attach a piece of narrow oval gold tinsel at the base of the tail.
    3. Dub the abdomen. Wind the tinsel over the abdomen to form the rib. Tie off the rib and clip the excess.
    4. Flip the fly over. Remove the core from a piece of narrow pearlescent tubing, tie the tubing in front of the abdomen.
    5. Dub the thorax.(Be sure to wrap some of the dubbing between the bead chain eyes.)
    6. Pull the tubing over the thorax to form the wing case. Tie down the tubing and clip the excess. Complete the head and tie off.
    7. Make the legs by picking out some of the dubbing in the thorax.
    8. Place a drop of Epoxy or head cement on the wing pad.
    Fishing Tips
    Recipe: What's Cholesterol?

Filet the Bluegills if large enough, otherwise just clean and scale.

Dip in milk, then dip in a beaten egg, then dip in crushed Saltine crackers. (Not the unsalted ones!)

    Fry in butter. Enjoy!
