Thread: Chartruese
Abdomen: Chartruese CDC feather
Wing: Light deer hair from deer's mask)
Hook: Size 14 or 16 shrimp/caddis pupae

| Tying Instructions |
Place hook in vise, etc. Take the CDC feather and stroke the barbules toward the tip. Tie in feather by tip and bring thread forward to a point a couple of eye lengths behind the eye. Wrap feather forward, as the barbules begin to flair stroke them toward the rear, as far as the thread. Make a couple of wraps to secure the feather and trim exess in front of thread. Cut a pinch (20 to 40 hairs) from the lightest hair on the Deer's Mask. Stack and trim to size (overall length of this fly should be 9 to 10 mm). Tie in the deer hair as you would in an Elk Hair Caddis.
Making a couple of wraps to secure and flare the hair, then make a wrap through the deer hair head. Build a small thread head, whip finish, then coat with head cement. |

| This fly is a variation of Hans Weilenmann's CDC and Elk. I tied it up to imitate the caddis that appear on the Upper Delaware in late May and early June. Basically, I fish up, across and down. I'll let the fly swing at the end of the drift, and let it hang in the current for a minute or so, before retrieving it in short strips. |
