| Tying Instructions |
- Wrap a base to the tail tie in area.
- Stack a clump of elk about the size of half to 3/4 a pencil and tie it in as the tail.
- Tie in a Hoffman saddle hackle feather, size to suit.
- Wrap a small under body and stop at the 80% mark to the head then wrap back to the tail area.
- Dub a thin body but be sure that you cover the thread underneath.
- Palmer the hackle to the 80% mark over the body.
- Prepare and tie in the turkey flat downwing style as the under wing.
- Bring the thread to the eye and stack a clump the size of a pencil and measure it along the shank (it should be about the same length). Tie it in with the points extending forward in front of the eye.
- Bring the thread back to just in front of the underwing.
- Grasp all the elk fibers and bring them back bullet style (be sure that you do not spin the elk around the entire shank). Then tie them in tight.
- In the same place prepare to knotted green or yellow rubber leg and tye one in on either side, be sure that they fork. Apply cement.
- (optional) If you want to give it a buggier look you can mark the legs with black marker.

| Fishing Tips |
This fly is great. I first tied it last year and was astonished at its productivity. One time I was fishing and the fly went over a branch just above the water and a beautiful rainbow came right out of the water and took it right out of the air. After that it has been one of my favorite July/August flies.
A good place to fish this is in moderate to fast moveing streams during terrestrial season. If the fish don't hit the first couple times try making it hit the water with a splash. |
