| Tying Instructions |
This fly is tied in the normal nymph pattern. If a thorax is
desired, build it up with the same dubbed fur as the abdomen.
- Start the thread behind the eye and wrap in open wraps along
the shank to the start of the bend. Weight the hook with the
lead, wrapping the middle 2/3 of the shank. Take the thread
forward and back again over the lead, again in open wraps,
ending back at the start of the bend.
- Tie in a generous amount of the chinchilla belly fur at the
bend extending the length of the hook behind the bend. (The
belly fur of the chinchilla is used here because of its white
tip giving the impression of a tail fin.) Tie in the oval
silver tinsel.
- Wax the thread and dub on the chinchilla body fur. (This fur
is the same colour as the base of the tail.) Dub forward to a
point behind the eye being sure to leave enough room for a
small black head.
- Wrap the oval silver tinsel forward to the front of the body
in no more than 3 open wraps and tie off. Form a small neat head
with the tying thread and whip finish.
- Using a bodkin or dubbing needle, pick out as much of the
body fur as possible from the top, sides and belly of the fly.
Smooth this picked-out fur back, all but obscurring the silver
rib. Finish the head with head cement and/or clear nail polish.
