Henryville Para-Caddis
Tied by Greg Park
  • Thread: 6/0 brown floss
  • Parachute Post: Bleached elk
  • Body: Brown superfine dubbing
  • Palmer: Grizzly
  • Hackle: Light brown saddle
  • Tent wing: Mottled turkey wing treated with Flexament; Rectangular shaped approx. 5/8" X 1/4" notched at one end
  • Hook: TMC 100 Size 12-18
  • Tying Instructions
Tie in brown floss and wrap down to bend and then back to a point 1/3 from the top. After cut off about 25 hairs of bleached elk and tie in parachute style. Wrap thread back down to bend and tie in grizzly hackle. Dub in body using brown superfine up to the eye and end up back at the post.

Next palmer the grizzly hackle up to the post and tie off. Clip off the top half of the hackle and then tie in mottled turkey feather tent wing style, notched side toward the back.

Finally, tie in brown hackle and wrap around post parachute style. Tie off thread and dab with cement.

I use this fly for slow, shallow, spooky, water. The parachute makes it easy to see amongst heavy reflections in the late afternoon water. When tying, I use bleached elk for the post as I find it much easier to use than calf tail and just as easy to see. And don't worry, it fishes well....even after the wing has been chewed on!
