| Tying Instructions |
- Wrap the hook shank with thread starting at the eye and wrapping half way down the hook shank.
- Select two matched CDC dun and strip off the excess barbles. The remaining hackle tips to be tied on the hook should be equal in length to the hook shank.
- Tie on the hackle tips 1/4 of the hook shank below the hook eye in an
upright manner to form wings and cut off the excess hackle stem once
properly secured. (I have also found that a clump of CDC tied back to 1.5x
the shank works well).
- Continue to wrap the remainder of the hook shank, with the thread, down
to the bend of the hook just opposite the hook barb. Tie in a dozen ginger
hackle barbles for the tail. The tail should be equal in length to the hook
shank.
- Dub body to the top of the hook shank allowing the tag end to extend 2/3
the length of the hook shank towards the hook eye and secure by wrapping
the thread up the hook shank to cover the tag end.
- Wrap the body material overhand covering the lower 2/3 of the hook shank
(abdomen) and secure.
- Select a properly sized ginger hackle feather, secure to the hook shank
and wrap the hackle forward toward the hook eye being careful not to cover
the upright wings.
- Secure the hackle feather, form a small tight head and whip finish.
