| Tying Instructions |
This is a straight forward tie.
Tail -> body -> throat -> wing -> finish off.
For tips:
- The tail should be about 1 shank length and should include both black bands on the golden pheasant tippet.
- Try to make the red floss band equal to about 1/2 the shank length with the peacock herl bands about 1/4 shank length each.
- For tying in the peacock, tie in with a with an extra peice of thread and then grasp the the whole thing with hackle pliers and twist before wrapping around the shank. Trim off excess from the first band but don't remove the material from the hackle pliers, this makes an easy tie in for the second band of herl.
- The throat should extend back to between the point of the hook and the hook bend.
- The wing should extend back to between the bend of the hook to the end of the tail.
- For the wing grab a pinch of marabou from the feather, then moisten it. This will make it easier to cut from the feather, easier to manage, and produce a smaller head when you tie it in.
