Krystal Minnow
Tied by Wendy White
  • Thread: Black 6/0
  • Body: Flat silver mylar tinsel
  • Hook: Mustad 9672 #6
  • Wing: Pearl Krystal Flash, gold Krystal Flash, green Krystal Flash, peacock herl, tied on in that order
  • Tail: Red Krystal Flash
  • Eyes: Silver metal bead chain
  • Tying Instructions
    1. Place hook in vise right side up. Wind thread on just behind the eye about 1/8". Place eyes over the thread and tie down well using figure 8 method. Apply head cement.

    2. Wind thread to bend of hook and tie in six short strands of red Krystal Flash for the tail.

    3. Tie in flat tinsel and wind thread down the shank of hook to just behind eyes.

    4. Wind tinsel to where thread stopped and tie off.

    5. Turn the hook over so the fly will ride hook up and the eyes will be the weight on the bottom (like a Clouser Minnow).

    6. Advance the thread to the front of the eyes and tie in the Krystal Flash in the order of six strands each of Pearl, Gold, Green, and then peacock herl.

    7. Secure and tie off. Apply head cement.

    8. Trim wing so that it's about 1/4" past the tail.

This fly is a figment of my imagination, but it meets the requirements of a Hardwater Swap Fly and doesn't look too bad either. Hope someone has some luck with it 8^). I suppose that this fly could be used for bass, pike or trout.
