Rusty Chenille Nymph
Tied by Jeremy Gray
  • Hook: 12-14 nymph
  • Legs: Black hen hackle
  • Wing: Brown goose biots
  • Weight: Medium lead wire
  • Thread: Rusty brown
  • Abdomen: Rusty brown chenille
  • Tying Instructions
Wrap thread halfway down shank. Apply 3-4 turns of medium lead wire at mid shank and overwrap with thread to secure. Tie in chenille at bend and wrap thread back to 1/4 below eye. Create a tightly wound body with chenille up over and just past wire. Tie in 2 brown goose biots crossed at the point where lead ends but below eye. Use the lead transition to stand wings up from body at a slight angle. Flip hook upside down and tie in soft black hen hackle tips with the very tips pulled out (mustache) with a couple easy thread turns. Pull the butt of the hen hackle to adjust the legs to just the right length, barely touching the hook point. Tie it off and whip finish.
    Fishing Tips
Fish weighted through ripples and seams with an indicator. Don't be afraid to dance it a little to induce a strike. This little guy looks great stumbling along the bottom with the current slipping down among the rocks.
