Scraggly Brown Stone
Tied by Byard Miller
  • Thread: 6/0 Brown
  • Tail: Brown duck biots
  • Rib: Fine copper wire
  • Body: Hare's ear and brown Antron blend
  • Weight: Lead wire or substitute
  • Wing Cases: Mottled turkey
  • Hook: Mustad 9671 #12
  • Legs: Partridge hackle
  • Tying Instructions
Tie in the tail fibers one at a time on each side of the hook shank so that they remain split. Measure two pieces of lead or lead substitute equal to just a bit less than the shank length. Lay one piece along one side of the shank and completely wrap towards the eye keeping the lead parallel with the hook. Tie the remaining piece on the opposite side in the same manner wrapping back towards the bend. Tie in a piece of fine copper wire and then dub the body about 2/3 of the shank. Spiral the copper over the body and tie off and trim. Tie on a 1/4" slip of mottled turkey quill with the good side down and the tip of the feather facing rearward. Dub forward about 1/2 of the remaining shank. Using a dubbing needle, crease the turkey feather and fold forward over the dubbing. Tie off the turkey and fold back again towards the rear. Prepare a partridge hackle by removing the fluff and one side of the fibers. Tie in the tip, wrap on the hackle and tie off and trim the excess. Dub the remainder of the body to just behind the eye. Repeat the folding of the turkey feather and tie off. Trim the excess and whip finish...Voila!

    Happy fishin'...enjoy...byard
