| Tying Instructions |
Apply tag, if used. Cover shank with thread. Tie in the deer brush at bend; advance the dubbing brush to approximately the 60% mark of the hook. Even off the tye off shoulder area created by the dubbing, with the thread. This is the tye down area of the quill wings so we do not want a sudden shoulder there. Apply Quill slips, far side first. Quill wings should be similar to a Henryville Caddis in that the tips are up. Do not tye opposed like the Henryville, but tye semi-tent like, over the body.
Tie in hackle, dry style, at the wing tye down area. Next tye in and wrap to just behind the eye, the Peacock herl. Palmer the hackle forward to just behind the eye as well. Bind and half hitch.
Remove fly from jaws turn the fly upside down and re-clamp in jaws. Separate two opposing Woody Flank barbs by cutting the tiptop center out of a flank feather and stroking all but two barbs down and back. The length you cut out will be about the length of the antennae. Where the two opposing barbs meet at the stem is the tye down point just behind the eye. The thread will push the top barb over and pull the under barb up in place. Confusing yes but if you play a bit here you will get the idea. Whip and fish!
