Cased Caddis Tied by Rich Chopyak |
|

Thorax: Brown Ostrich Herl
Thread: Brown/Tan
Case: Scud Back
Hook: Standard caddis hook size 12-18
Abdomen: Tan muskrat
|
|
| Tying Instructions |
| Tie in a 1/8-1/4 inch piece of ostrich herl as the tail. If you are using
the optional rib, tie it in now at the tail. Tie in a strip of Scud Back and
leave it trailing toward the tail. Dub the body to just past the half-way
point. Tie in another piece of ostrich herl and make 3-4 wraps toward the
eye, tie off, and trim. Bring the Scud Back forward over the body and tie
off. Stretch the Scud Back so that it's tight enough to prevent it from
sliding or twisting around the body. If you are using the rib, make 3-4
wraps forward with the mono and tie it off. Whip finish, cement, and you are
done. |
| Fishing Tips |
| Fish this fly like a nymph, as an emerger, or (my preferred way) as a dropper behind a caddis dry. It perfectly matches caddis I've found in several Colorado streams. |
