Thread: Black 6/0 or 8/0
Hackle: Black saddle hackle
Body: Black synthetic or fur dubbing (the synthetic is waterproofed)
Hook: Dry fly hook sizes# 12-20

| Tying Instructions |
- Place hook in vice and attach thread to hook shank below eye. Wind down
the shank to the bend of the hook.
- Take a small pinch of dubbing and even out on thread twisting it in a
clockwise manner. Start forming ant body at the bend of hook and work your way
forward with the dubbing till a base is formed. Then shape to form rest of abdomen.
- Select a black hackle. Instead of stripping the unwanted hackle barbs at
the tie in end, pull them down and trim them almost to the stem of the hackle. This will prevent the hackle from slipping.
- Tie in the hackle and wrap forward in front of abdomen. At least four wraps
should be given. Tie off and wrap thread forward.
- Roll more dubbing on thread in a smaller amount and create the wanted shape
for the thorax leaving room at the eye to tie off.
- Execute a whip finish (I use a manual whip finish) cut thread and cement.
