Black Ant
Tied by Doug Peterson
  • Hackle: Black
  • Thread: Black 3/0 waxed
  • Hook: Tiemco 100 standard dry
  • Body: Umpqua Morris Foam (black closed cell 1/16") Black dubbing
  • Tying Instructions
Cover hook with thread, then tie foam on at end. Just above end of bare hook wrap several times to make smooth. Put a little dubbing on to form back of ant, then bring foam over dubbing and wrap with thread 6 to 8 turns, one in front of the other. Then wrap thread to back and tie on hackle, wrap it 3 to 4 turns and tie off. Pull foam back, add dubbing to form head, pull foam over dubbing and wrap with thread. Cut off foam as close as possible and wrap with thread to make smooth. Whip finish and cement head.
