So there I was, me on one side, and 100 caddis hooks on the other. And I blinked. Before I knew it, I had 50 tied. Damn!...It's OK. I'm back under control, trying to stare the remaining 50 into tying themselves...as I recall, I missed the Royal Rhyacophila Raspberry Award by one place last year...I'm not letting *that* happen again!

Today I looked at the materials. I pulled back the barbules on the butt section of a pheasant feather. I gathered the tip fibers into a cluster and clasped them between index finger and thumb. I massaged the bundle until they were perfectly compacted into the wing of a #18 spent caddis. I held them close to my better-than-blind right eye. That was enough.
